18 July 2012 : Unique piece of Cathedral masonry for sale
An original Portland Stone finial which has graced the roof of the Chapter House, Salisbury Cathedral, for nearly 200 years, will be the star lot in our charity auction at the Salisbury Diamond Jubilee Fund Ball to be held in the Cathedral on September 15th.
The beautiful finial which is about 2’ high was hand carved between 1840-1865 and was situated on the North East Buttress Gable.
Thanks to the Very Reverend June Osborne, Dean of Salisbury Cathedral, this is an absolute one-off, a truly unique opportunity to acquire a tangible piece of the Cathedral’s history and will make a really attractive talking point for someone’s house or garden.
It will be available to view on the night, comes with a stone base and the buyer will be able to take it home the following day. All proceeds from the auction, which also includes lots such as 2 internships for Tulchan Communications LLP, will go directly to the Salisbury Diamond Jubilee Fund to support local charities in and around Salisbury.
The evening, generously sponsored by Smith and Williamson, includes a champagne reception, 3 course dinner with wine, and dancing to Sticky Wicket and his fabulous string orchestra who recently went down a storm at the Marlborough Jazz Festival. Tickets are £80 per person and there are still a few left. For further information 07906 580361 or kate.robinson@wscf.org.uk
