Named Funds
A Fund at the Community Foundation works like a charitable trust but is much easier to manage. It allows you to support issues and areas of your choosing, but saves you the trouble of appointing trustees, handling investments and administration.
Just like Named Funds for private individuals and families, organisations can also set up funds to give to the local causes of their choice. Just like private Named Funds, some companies leave the decision-making to the Community Foundation, while others prefer to be more involved with grant decisions, often involving a group of employees who work with the Community Foundation to make good local grants.
You can set up a Named Fund with a one-off donation of £20,000 or with a pledge to build a fund over four years. Corporate donations can be set against Corporation Tax.
Funds are invested and the income is used to make regular grants to the local projects you are interested in helping. All the grants we make are ratified by the Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Revenue Funds
While our priority is to build an endowment fund for Wiltshire and Swindon, we also manage funds where the donor wishes their gift to have an immediate impact. We match carefully assessed applications from local community projects to fulfil the donors charitable wishes.
A number of donors, including existing Charitable Trusts, government organisations, companies and individuals ask us to manage some or all of their charitable giving by making regular donations to be given in immediate grants to local groups that have been carefully assessed by us.
Core Funding
Some of our most important donors are those who will contribute directly to the Community Foundation’s own running costs, by funding the cost of our fundraising, marketing and administration. It is thanks to their suppor that the Community Foundation is able to attract new donations and ensure that we are able to continue giving grants to local projects.
In 2008/09 the three key corporate supporters of our core costs were Intel, Nationwide and Wadworth & Co Ltd.
Sponsorship
When we put on a fundraising event, we aim to cover all the costs through sponsorship, ensuring that 100% of the money raised from ticket sales will directly benefit the
charity.
Our High Sheriff’s reception in 2009 was sponsored by SG Hambros's and Wiltshire Life Magazine, ensuring that the event raised over £10,000 for the Community Foundation’s High Sheriff’s Fund.
Gifts in kind
Several local businesses provide in-kind support, reducing our day-to-day running costs, helping us to produce high quality marketing materials at little or no cost, or providing some of their stock for a fundraising event.
Record number of grants made during 2009/2010
Our final calculations for our end of year accounts have shown that we distributed £913,000 in grants to 255 groups during 2009/2010.
