Community Foundations

Community Foundations are an American concept that was brought to the UK in the 1980s. During the last two decades, Community Foundations have spread rapidly around the globe. Community Foundations are one of the fastest growing forms of organised philanthropy.

We are part of a network of 57 Foundations nationwide.  At the end of 2010, the network's total endowment stood at £224.5 million, and £74m in  grants had been made across the network.  As leading local philanthropy advisors Community foundations now work with 23,400 donors across the country

We work closely with the seven foundations in the South West of England, with the Chief Executives meeting quarterly to share best practice and work on new projects.  Our key relationships are with Bournemouth Dorset and Poole, Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire, Quartet and Somerset.

Wiltshire and Swindon have an endowment fund of just over £8m and distributed £603,000 in grants to 233 groups in 2010/2011 (final audited figures pending).  We are celebrating our 20th birthday this year making us one of the oldest Community Foundations in the UK.
