Community Foundations
Community Foundations are an American concept that was brought to the UK in the 1980s. During the last two decades, Community Foundations have spread rapidly around the globe. Community Foundations are one of the fastest growing forms of organised philanthropy.
We are part of a network of 58 Foundations nationwide. At the end of 2009, the network's total endowment stood at £151.4 million, and 19,000 grants had been made to the value of £56m. In the last five years Community Foundations generated £200m of new priviate giving for communities and helped government and other agencies invest £300m
We work closely with the seven foundations in the South West of England, with the Chief Executives meeting quarterly to share best practice and work on new projects. Our key relationships are with Bournemouth Dorset and Poole, Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire, Quartet and Somerset.
Wiltshire and Swindon have an endowment fund of just over £7m and distributed £913,000 in grants to 255 groups in 2009/2010. We are one of the oldest Community Foundations in the UK.
